When Saigon Became a Memory

There’s something unforgettable about Saigon — the constant buzz of motorbikes weaving through the streets, the aroma of pho and street food filling every corner, and the way history and modern life blend so seamlessly.

I spent six days wandering from the chaos of Bến Thành Market to quiet hidden alleys, sipping endless glasses of strong cà phê sữa đá, and soaking in the city’s rhythm. From the humbling stories at the War Remnants Museum and the Cu Chi Tunnels to the glow of Saigon’s skyline at night, every moment left an imprint.

One of my favorite highlights was visiting Thảo Cầm Viên Zoo — seeing animals I don’t get to see back home in the Philippines made it feel extra special. I also found myself standing in awe at Nam Mô Dương Lạc Tôn Phật, wandering through Vincom Center, passing by the iconic Saigon Opera House, and even catching a glimpse of Elisa, the boat-restaurant glowing on the river.

Along the way, I crossed paths with fellow travelers — fleeting encounters that turned into small but memorable moments. But more than the sights, what truly made the trip special were the people. The warm smiles, the friendly “hello’s,” and the kindness that made Saigon feel like a home away from home.

On the journey back to the Philippines, we had a quick stopover in Kuala Lumpur and stayed at Hotel Sri Langit — an airplane-themed hotel that added a little adventure to the way home.

Looking back, Ho Chi Minh wasn’t just a trip. It was a story — one of culture, connection, and moments I’ll carry with me long after leaving its streets behind.
