Mt. Romelo: Conquering Heights and Fears

📍 Laguna| 📅 July 2019

Mt. Romelo in Laguna will always have a special place in my memory — not just for the trek, the waterfalls, or the overnight camp, but for the adventure that pushed me beyond my limits. And then there’s Buruwisan Ecopark, a place that feels like nature’s hidden playground. The trek takes you through muddy trails, lush greens, and river crossings, leading to waterfalls that feel untouched by time. The sound of rushing water, the fresh air, and the simple joy of being surrounded by nature made the whole experience worth every step.

It wasn’t just a side trip — it was the heart of the adventure. One of the highlights was the “ZipRap” — a mix of zipline and rappelling — something I never thought I could do, especially since I’ve always had a fear of heights. But here’s the twist: we did it at night, in total darkness. I couldn’t see how high or deep it was, and that’s exactly what gave me the courage to take the leap.

The next morning, I went back and did it again in daylight — and this time I could see everything. Somehow, facing it twice made the experience even more meaningful.

It wasn’t just an adrenaline rush, it was a reminder that sometimes, the best way to conquer fear is to dive in even when you can’t see what’s ahead. Looking back at these photos, I’m grateful for the challenge, the laughter, the mud, the stars above our campsite, and the people who made the climb unforgettable. Truly, “akyat bundok” is more than just trekking — it’s about the stories we carry long after the trail ends.
